Dismantle, recycle and play your part

With the automobile industry flourishing day by day, the number of cars, on road increase endlessly. People tend to buy new cars every other day resulting in the increase in the number of cars on road contributing in traffic and pollution. Being an Automobile freak, it is really difficult to stay away from new inventions of cars everyday but maybe recycling of your old cars may lead to better conditions.

People generally tend to have a soft corner for their cars which become old with time and they are still not ready to discard the old ones even after bringing the new ones. Because of that emotional attachment, and in the absence of an end-of-life policy, most old vehicles in India are sold in a thriving secondhand market, or left to corrode. Taking your vehicle off the road will help reduce pollution since old vehicles don't conform to most emission guidelines. If they are properly dismantled and recycled.

Here are some ways that may help us recycle our old vehicles-

1. Disconnect Hoses and Wires

– The first step to disassembling a vehicle is to remove the hood and disconnect the battery. Locate, disconnect and remove all of the engine hoses and wires. Then, drain the vehicle of oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid and gasoline and store these fluids in approved containers for later recycling. Make sure that absolutely everything has been disconnected from the engine.

2. Remove the Engine

– The next step is to the engine. In order to do this, the engine must first be connected to the engine lift and all of the mounts must be completely unbolted. Check the connection to the engine lift and use it to hoist the engine out of the automobile. The engine can be sold for a pretty penny if it is operational; if not, the engine can be dismantled and sold for parts.

3. Remove Parts

–Items like the starter, alternator, radiator and even some sensors and exhaust components can be salvaged and sold for a reasonable price at most salvage yards or used parts stores

4. Remove Tyres

– Remove the tyres by using a lift to raise the automobile off of the ground. Then, remove all brake pads, drums, shoes and lines and be sure to save the rotors; these are prime examples of parts that can be resold after just a bit of work.

5. Dismantle the Body

– Remove all of the fenders, doors, and the roof of your vehicle in order to take it down to the frame. This may require some serious physical labor and the help of hammers, screwdrivers, crowbars and even blowtorches but it is well worth it in the end. Any undamaged body parts can be sold for a decent price; wrecked or crushed bodies are often able to be recycled.

6. Remove the Interior

– The final step in disassembling a car is removing the automobile’s interior. Remove the seats, the dashboard, the door panels and even the carpeting in order to expose the metal floorboards. Once this is completed the frame of the car should be visible; the automobile can be sold for parts as-is or the frame can be cut into smaller pieces with a blowtorch if the metal will be recycled.

If you want to avoid this hard work, then you may take your old cars to dismantling yards which may offer you a reasonable price for the scrap material of your cars. So contribute your bit to the safer environment and society by recycling the old automobiles from your houses and play a part of a responsible citizen of the country.
