Honda Cars India Limited has been working on a new-mid size SUV for the Indian market for a very long time and we have already come across plenty of spy images of the fully camouflaged four-wheeler. The design sketches were revealed in January this year and the launch timeline was confirmed for June 2023. As we are just a month away, it is confirmed that the Upcoming Honda mid-size SUV will debut on June 6. Let's have a look at the upcoming mid-size SUV's important highlights.
Upcoming Honda Mid-Size SUV: What We Know So Far?
Codenamed 3US, some media reports claim that the SUV could be named Elevate, however, nothing can be ascertained as of now. This SUV has specifically been made for the Indian market, keeping in mind the requirements and driving conditions in the country. The global debut will be followed by a market launch around August 2023. Talking about the technicals, it will sit on the same platform as the current-gen City and Honda will only offer the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine initially. This engine will be mated to a familiar gearbox setup comprising of a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit. The strong hybrid powertrain could be introduced at a later stage.
In terms of dimensions, the upcoming Honda mid-size SUV will likely measure around 4.3 meters in length which will be at par with its rivals. Based on the design sketch and spy images, it is safe to say that the vehicle will sport a typical SUVish stance coupled with a commanding road presence. The boxy design element and sharp edges will lend it a modern appeal which is loved by Indian customers. Competing in a highly popular segment, Honda's upcoming mid-size SUV is bound to be tech-laden with some top-class features. A 10.2-inch infotainment display is confirmed and other features will be at par with the rivals.
Upcoming Honda Mid-Size SUV: Expected Pricing and Rivals
The starting price of the upcoming mid-size SUV is expected to be around Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end trim could go up to Rs. 17-18 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun in the segment.
