Why Did Carlos Ghosn Resign From Nissan CEO Post?

Amidst a lot of speculations, the matter of resignation of Carlos Ghosn as the Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motors has finally come to its conclusion. He confirmed quitting the position so as to look into the matter of Mitsubishi Motor scandal with detailing. But things are not to be worried about as he will continue as the chairman of the Japanese automobile industry. Famously termed as Le Cost Killer owing to his abilities of constructing Nissan up from a bankrupt state and also heading the French auto major Renault successfully for all these years. There will be no one with a doubt about his capabilities of building the company up from rags to riches in the late 1990s.

The step has its roots in the Mitsubishi's false mileage claim scandal for which Nissan came to its rescue by buying about one third of the total shares, pricing around 2.2 billion dollars. Thus, the move shall place Carlos as the chairman of all the three auto companies, making Hiroto Saikawa the newly appointed CEO of Nissan Motors from 1st April onwards. Hiroto was the co-CEO of the Japanese car manufacturers.

Optimistically, Ghosn said that "There's a point in time where you have to be realistic about how much things you do and you can do well. This is the trigger. There's a moment when you have to pass the baton to someone else. I've always said I would love to have a Japanese to be my successor and Saikawa-san is somebody I have been grooming for many years."

During 1999, when Nissan was in complete shatters, Ghosn brought the company out of the hock, incrementing jobs and profits and placing the Nissan- Renault collaboration as the 4th largest automaker in the world.
