Volkswagen Tiguan to be launched in May 2017

After a nation wide emission scandal, Volkswagen is all set to improve its product folio and add more customers to its sheets. Volkswagen had launched the Ameo and the Polo GTI in 2016 and is now coming up with its SUV offering-The Tiguan. Tiguan will be launch in May however the booking will be open in April 2017.

The Volkswagen Tiguan which is based on the MQB platform is 60mm longer and 30mm wider and sits 33mm lower than the older model.VW had launched its SUV TOUAREG before but the strategy failed and thus the company had to discontinue with the model. This offering by VW will be lined up with the competitors like Ford EndeavourToyota Fortuner and even the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Another one yet to be launch is the Skoda Kodiaq which is based on the same platform as the Tiguan and will be just as or even more spacious.

The wheel base is longer by 77mm  and this indicates that there will be more space available in this VW SUV. VW has also managed to reduce the weight of the car by 50kgs.

A 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine will be supplying power to this SUV and is capable of churning 147 BHP power. This 1968cc motor which will be turbocharged will come clubbed with a tested 7-speed DSG automatic unit. In terms of the features it will include a 5-inch screen or a bigger 8-inch display (depending on the variant) along with support navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and many other services.

As VW Tiguan will be coming to India as a completely built unit it will be priced high. We are sure that VW is well aware of the other cars that are premium and can turn the competition down like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner or the Ford Endeavour will prove to be a task (considering it's smaller and sans an all-wheel drive), which is why the company is searching for a middle ground.
