Volkswagen & Microsoft to enter into partnership

VW and the software giant, Microsoft, has agreed onto a partnership that aims to develop the ‘Volkswagen Automated Cloud’. This strategic partnership will lead to one of the most dedicated automotive industry clouds for all future Volkswagen digital services and mobility offerings.

With this tie-up the US automaker will continue to aid its fleet with mobility and provide a connectedness to all the cars, thus empowering its digital ecosystem “Volkswagen WE”.

From 2020, more than 5 million new Volkswagen-brand vehicles per year will be fully connected and will be part of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the cloud.In the future, all in-car services for vehicles of the Volkswagen brand as well as the Group-wide cloud-based platform will be built on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform and services as well as Azure IoT Edge.

This strategic partnership will turbocharge the digital mobility and will  play a key role in shaping the future of automobility.

In the long run, this partnership will help in building the foundation for all customer-centric services of the brands. This concept will also include something called the Volkswagen ID.In the future, Volkswagen's fleet of cars will become mobile hubs linked by Microsoft Azure.
