Top 10 selling Passenger Vehicles in Oct

This October has proved really auspicious for the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) as once again the company has won the battle and stood seventh position, out of the top 10 selling cars.

Moreover, the top six cars from Maruti crossed 10,000 sales mark, that is nearly 31 percent of the total passenger vehicles sold in October 2016.

This month the total passenger vehicle sales increased by 4.48 percent at 280,677 units as compared to 268,630 units in the same month previous year.

The fall in sales of Alto and Dzire could not hold back the company's achievement, as both continue to rule the top two slots of the best-selling passenger vehicles. Selling 18,854 units of Alto in October 2016, as compared to 22,861 units in the same month last year, seeing a fall of 17.52 percent in sales. The new launches in the segment became the reason behind fall, segments like Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-go.

Renault Kwid continues to host vigorous sales and maintain the sales momentum. It’s amazing that with 9,801 units, the entry level hatchback from Renault has been able to stand at the 8th position in the top selling list.

While Datsun sold 3,279 units of Redi-Go, which is a good number for the Datsun brand seeing the performance of the previous models like Go and Go Plus. Redi-Go is the largest selling car for the Japanese carmaker Nissan.

Whereas, Grand i10 is the only car in the lot of best-selling passenger vehicles, which maintained the sales momentum apart from the recently launched vehicles, like Baleno, Brezza and Kwid that have been doing well.

Hyundai sold 14,530 units of Grand i10 in October 2016, as compared to 14,079 units in the same month last year. The Grand i10 climbed one rung up and reached the fourth position, pushing Maruti Suzuki’s Swift down by two positions, which now occupies the fifth rank at 14,611 units; the car maker sold 17,669 units of Swift in October last year.

Moreover, Baleno maintains the sales at the sixth position at 10,718 units. Also it outsold Hyundai Elite i20, which sold 9,600 units at ninth position in October 2016, compared to 11,019 units in the same month last year.

It’s raining Maruti as in the fourth consecutive month, Vitara Brezza beat Creta in terms of sales. Maruti Suzuki sold 10,051 units of Vitara Brezza in October. While Hyundai sold 8,670 units of Creta. In a surprise move, Maruti Suzuki's first automatic hatchback Celerio replaced Creta at the tenth position by selling 9,581 units.
