Taigun SUV launched by VW, price starts at INR 10.50 lakh

New Delhi: VW India on Thursday launched the Taigun mid-size SUV at prices starting from INR 10,49,900 lakh to INR 17,49,900 lakh (ex-showroom).

According to the automaker, Taigun is powered by the brand's globally renowned TSI technology and will be available with two engine options -- 1.0L and 1.5L with manual and automatic transmissions.

The SUV is offered in two distinctive lines of Dynamic, which has variants that are powered by a 1.0-litre engine in Comfortline, Highline and Top Line, and Performance, which has variants powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine in GT and GT Plus.

The Taigun SUV is offered in five colour options of Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver and Carbon Steel Grey.

It is VW's first product under its India 2.0 project, through which the VW group had in 2018 announced a target of garnering 5% of Indian passenger vehicles market by 2025 with group firm Skoda Auto taking the lead.

Under the India 2.0 project, Volkswagen had announced in 2018 that it would invest EUR 1 billion (about INR 7,900 crore) between 2019 and 2021 as part of its strategy to enhance presence in the country, which will be led by the group firm Skoda Auto.

It will be rolled out from VW's Pune plant which has an annual production capacity of 2 lakh units. The unit also rolls out products of the group firm Skoda.

In June this year, the Volkswagen-owned Czech automaker Skoda Auto launched Kushaq SUV with an introductory price of INR 10,49,000 going up to INR 17,59,999 in India (ex-showroom).
