Suzuki and Toyota to bring EVs to India by 2020

2020 looks to be an important year in the book of the Indian Auto Industry. With the coming of the lithium-ion battery cars and the EVs getting more powerful and affordable with every technological update, the automakers have taken an oath of changing the way people drive. From petrol, diesel and other harsh fuels to electric, hydrogen and cleaner vehicles.

With many collaborations and investments already happening in the country for the sole aim of increasing the EVs adaptation in the country by 2020, the end of the second decade of this century will prove its worth.

To support this, another collaboration has happened between Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation, as they have signed a memorandum of understanding, which will see both companies working together for introducing electric vehicles (EVs) in the Indian market by around 2020.

The MoU details how Suzuki is to produce EVs for the Indian market and will supply some to Toyota, while Toyota is to provide technical support. Also, both the companies will together study the adaptation and the use of EVs in the country thus strategizing in the best possible manner.

Suzuki has already stated its work for the production of the lithium-ion batteries in Gujarat. In addition to lithium-ion batteries, electric motors and other major components would be locally procured for the production of EVs in India.
