Roads to be Safer if Vehicles Communicate to Each Other?

Accidents are life threatening. That is the reason why most auto manufacturers and the government give importance to the safety features. Airbags, ABS, EBD has been some of the greatest innovations in the auto safety platter but when it comes to saving the life of the occupants of the vehicles MORE IS LESS.

Science is now coming with a better technology i.e. Vehicle 2 Vehicle communication. What is it? And how is this helpful?

Vehicle 2 Vehicle communication is a technology that helps you to connect your vehicles with the other vehicles near you and let it communicate to others. Yes, your car will do all the talking. Once the vehicles are V2V enabled, they will share the data with the other vehicles nearby. The data will include information about - speed, location, direction of travel, braking, and loss of stability.

The technology works on the mechanism of a WIFI that allows the vehicles to be connected, share information and even warn the drivers of a possible collision, or even hits the brakes automatically to avoid an accident.

This type of technology is already in its testing phase by companies like Ford and the recent Tata and Microsoft Ink merger for the same. This technology will be a mesh network that not only created a network between the vehicles on the road but also with the traffic signals and the GPS. An innovation like this would not only help in reducing the number of accidents but also will help in improving the traffic conditions on the roads. Smart traffic lights would play a big roll in successfully implementing this safety feature. This type of a network will be called a V2I (Vehicle to infrastructure) network.

Coming up with such informative technologies and implementing the same is likely to reduce the number of accidents by 81%.
