The Faster Adoption of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme covered all the manufacturers that sold vehicles based on both mild or fully hybrid cars and provided them with the concession of Rs. 13 thousand. It also lessens the V from standard 12.5% to mere 5 % for the cars that are based on hybrid or electric technology. But it seemed some of the companies did not meet the idea of promoting pollution free vehicles' sales but still took the benefits of the scheme. For instance, Maruti Suzuki's Smart Hybrid Vehicle technology based cars just incorporated an extra motor that recharges the battery while coasting and assisting the engine when stressed. This setup just helped to save fuel at traffic lights but did not effectively meet the need of putting cleaner electricity based vehicles on roads. Previously, the scheme required the vehicles to have this start stop button so as not to waste the fuel while standing on a red light or during any random halts. But now, the scheme has been taken off from the vehicles that are mild-hybridised.

Though, the vehicles like Toyota Camry, Toyota Prius, recently launched Lexus, and Honda Accord have already applied for the scheme and will continue to enjoy its benefits. Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology barely meets the criteria by incorporating an extra motor that recharges the battery while coasting and assisting the engine when stressed. The duo is also able to give a seamless start-stop experience while idling, thus helping save fuel at traffic lights. It might also be because of the wide scale acceptance of mild-hybrids in India, which has shifted the focus of the Govt. on the sales of the fully electric and hybrid vehicles.
