Nissan steps into premium category; Datsun to stick to smaller cars

The Nissan Datsun duo has now decided to segregate the product line for each of the two companies. Drawing a clear line of distinction on the bases of segments, these auto companies have now taken a decision to stick to them.

Nissan will now be launching premium cars whereas Datsun will stick to the budget cars.

“We are two brands—Nissan and Datsun. Nissan will be focusing on the slightly upper-end variant, technology, innovations and style, whereas Datsun will emphasize on the small car segment,” company MD Arun Malhotra said in an interview.

The decision was taken after the amazing sales on the Datsun Redi-Go. The company believes that such segregation will help both the companies to perform better in their strata. Also, it will help the companies to concentrate their workings in a specific direction and perform better.

The dismal sales of Go and Go+ along with a zero rating in the Euro Ncap created a lot of negative stir in the market. Comparatively, the Redi-Go was successful in performing better and helping in raising the sales of the company.

Nissan, however, believes that by 2020, it will be able to capture a larger market share with its electric car offerings.
