Also, the Indian vertical of the Japan-based company has asked a refund of Rs. 2k Crore VAT charged by the Tamil Nadu Govt. which has been risen to the Union Commerce Ministry level. The company marked the minutes of bilateral tax treaty signed between India and Japan. It says that the state govt. duly offers Investment promotion subsidy and VAT refunds to the companies from Japan so as to promote their investment in Indian lands. Out of the mentioned taxes, the state has refunded IPS but VAT hasn't been granted to them, for which they have claimed the refund, time and again.
