The next Bugatti Chiron to be electrified?

Bugatti took everyone on a surprise when it told a few reporters that the next generation Chiron will have a base level of electrification when it arrives at the market. Bugatti management accepts that electrification is the only way to which it will be able to restore the company’s shattering performance.

The Chiron has the capacity of dispatching 100kmph mark in just 2.5secs, before maxing out at an eye-popping 420kmph. These snazzy numbers are thanks to an eight-litre W16 motor with four turbo chargers strapped on for a scintillating power output of 1479bhp and 1598Nm.

CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer, said, “Electrification will happen. The next car is a long way from being developed, but the way battery and electric motor technology is moving on – as well as regulations – it seems certain that the next car will be electrified in some way. It will still be too soon for a fully electric car, I think – but electrification will happen.”

Other automakers in the race which include LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder have already adopted to the vehicle hybridity and is adapting to innovative technologies to bump up their performances. Their engines are considerably small and give lesser outputs but are strong enough to crack the 100kmph barrier in 2.8secs due to the significant benefits of being electrified.

On a lighter note, Durheimer admitted that there will probably never be a car with the pure mechanical capabilities of the Chiron. The fact that it may never be beaten in purely mechanical terms makes it incredibly desirable, which is why CEO Durheimer is considering buying one too.
