New eligibility to buy a car, Parking space proof made compulsory

The Narendra Modi led govt.discussing to make it obligatory for a buyer to be able to give a proof that they have parking space available to keep the purchased vehicle.

Venkaiah Naidu, the Union Urban Development Minister recently said that "In future, it would be mandated no permission would be given to any construction without a toilet. No car or vehicle should be registered without adequate parking space availability certificate. I am holding discussions with Nitin Gadkari and also sensitising the states. We are moving in that direction." This was well supported by Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport Minister as this move will help reducing congestion in small streets as well as places where cars that are parked without authorisation and block the streets with eateries, shops, wholesale markets etc.

To bring the law into force, an amendment in the Motor Vehicles Law shall be initiated, whose approval is pending from the parliament. There was also an amendment introduced in 2016 which aimed to improve road safety and the methods of transport departments. Once enforced, it will be propagated by civic agencies and State Govt.'s transport department.

The date of implementation of the law hasn't been told yet, neither has it been talked about whether only new cars shall come under this law or all the cars will have to do the same. The sales of vehicles is rising steeply in India, while there is a lack of proper planning as to how to park it without causing unnecessary traffic.

Some constructional changes might solve the problem, like dedicating the ground floor to parking space, constructing 3 to 4 storeyed buildings where all the vehicles can be parked easily and restricting the random parking on various roads where there is a heavy flow of traffic.
