M&M may soon electrify all its UVs and Crossovers

With the government initiative to electrify all the cars that run on the Indian roads by 2030, Mahindra is taking its first step. It has planned to roll out UVs and Crossover so as to help the government in reaching the target.

With the launch of the new KUV100 NXT, Mahindra said that it has a strong plan of electrification of its products very soon. Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra and Mahindra said that the company also has plants to launch the KUV Electric one year from now.

According to Goenka, the company believes that the drive towards electrification is very much possible, the Mahindra will be able to achieve it too. Penetrations of this idea is still unknown, but the company will be able to face it.

Apart from KUV Electric which will be launched in 2018, Mahindra plans to electrify, Tivoli based SUV S201 in the following year.

Taking about the SUVs, Mahindra as for now have no plans to electrify the Scorpio and XUV 500 but it may plan to make mild hybrid SUVs in future.

The company has in fact committed an investment of over Rs 3500 crore to Rs 4000 crore on future electric vehicle portfolio and technology.

The MD of Mahindra and Mahindra says the general perception is that Mahindra is a diesel vehicle company, but he informed that over 50% of its small SUV KUV 100 comes from petrol and going ahead company will strengthen its petrol portfolio further.

Seeing the company’s sales going down, the officials have been launching  new cars one after the other. Thus with this shift from diesel to petrol and there after to hybrids and electrics can help the company to improve the slow growth rate.
