Methanol and petrol blend policy to be taken into consideration

The union government is making considerations for a Methanol and Petrol blend policies. The government calls for 15 percent blending of methanol in petrol to make it cheaper and reduce pollution. The 15 percent blending of methanol in petrol to make it cheaper and reduce pollution, Mr. Nitin Gadkari will take a decision on this very soon.

The fact is that Methanol is derived from coal and the cost of the product is around Rs 22 per liter as compared to the prevailing price of about Rs 80 per litre for petrol. While in other countries like China, the same product is available for Rs 17 per litre. Gadhkari also said that chemical factories like Deepak Fertilizers and Rastriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) can produce methanol.

The decision will be followed by a testing of this fuel and then re considering it for the use by the masses. For the testing period, the furl will be tested on the Volvo’s methanol-powered buses and this will happen in Mumbai. It we are successful in making the use of the Methanol that can be produced locally then the prices of petrol might decrease.

India’s production of the ethanol is low and limited, thus due to the scarcity the level of it in our petrol is less. Gadkari has suggested to make fuel cheaper in an innovative way rather than spending over Rs 70,000 crore on refineries. He also expressed his concern for the increase in the traffic by 22% due to new car sales and the second hand too.
