Mercedes-Benz to Introduce 4 New Engines in 2017

Merc’s engine family that was launched in 2016, i.e the 4-cylinder diesel engine code named ‘OM 654’, will now include four new members this coming year. An inline 6-cylinder petrol (M 256), an inline 4-cylinder petrol (264), an inline 6-cylinder diesel (OM 656) and a petrol V8 (M 176). And you will see this power packed engine in the face lifted S-class Mercedes-Benz soon the coming year.

The inline 6-cylinder petrol constitutes a 3.0 litre engine integrating a 48V electric system, generating up to 408PS of power and 500Nm of torque with a claimed 15% reduction in CO2 emissions, compared to the replaced motors.

The second one is an Inline 4-cylinder petrol comprising a 2 and 4 litre cylinder unit giving around 136PS power, comes with twin-scroll turbochargers and a belt-driven 48V starter-alternator (BSA), which works as fuel saver.

Next is Inline 6-cylinder diesel honored as the “most powerful passenger-car diesel engine in the history of Mercedes-Benz”, this 3.0 litre produces 313PS power, that means around 55PS more than the current V6 engine. Also it offers 7% uplift in fuel efficiency as well.

Last but not the least is V8 petrol of 4.0 litre bi-turbo V8 engine giving 476PS of power with a peak torque of 700Nm. It consumes 10 percent lesser fuel than its forerunner. Moreover, with power packed S-class other models too will be out soon in 2017.
