Maruti first to start producing Lithium-ion Battery in India

Maruti, is no far from the electrification revolution in the auto industry. The company, in a collaboration with tech giants Toshiba and Denso, will be setting up India’s first lithium-ion battery production facility purely dedicated to automobiles.

The company plans to set up the plant in a supplier park that it close to the Maruti’s manufacturing plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. If thing go according to the plan, the plan will set up by the end of this decade.

Japanese automaker Suzuki, which has a controlling stake in India’s Maruti Suzuki, will have the highest stake of 50 per cent in the battery plant. Toshiba, which will bring in its A-game to supply cell modules, will have a stake of 40 per cent. Denso, which is a Toyota-owned company, will bring in its technological prowess and hold the remaining stake in the venture. Cumulatively, the trio will invest over Rs 1,150 crore into the battery plant.

Hybridity and electrification is the talk of the auto industry right now and car manufacturers are exploring the options of making ecofriendly cars with all their might.

Maruti taking up such a decision is a leap forward for the country that is one of the largest automotive industry in the world.
