Mahindra targets Innova Crysta with its attractively priced Marazzo

There has been no competition to the hugely successful Innova from Toyota, but the locally grown Mahindra & Mahindra has taken a leaf out of its global product development facilities in the US and Italy to bring its all-new Marazzo to make a strong impact on price and sweep the market.

Launched at an attractive starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and touching Rs 13.90 lakh its much cheaper than Toyota Innova Crysta and carries the advantage of superior all-disc brakes with the segment first emergency call that connects via a phone in case of a mishap along with the location of the vehicle.

Commenting on the launch, Pawan Goenka the Managing Director of M&M says that Marazzo comes with the global quality of its Italian design house Pininfarina and the Detroit based Mahindra Automotive North America. "This is a global quality product for the Indian market at truly Indian prices. It’s makes is of global order which should make it an ideal 'peoples' mover' for the Indian market," he added.

The sharp-inspired design: Mazarro is almost Rs two lakh cheaper than the Innova's base model and is likely to make an aggressive pitch with other models like the Maruti Ertiga and Renault Lodgy. Market veterans say that the patented body-on-frame design architecture will make Mazarro nimble like a car and give space of any wagon to its customers. Its proven mileage in excess of 17 km to a litre of diesel will be an added advantage.

The new Mahindra Marazzo is powered by a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that has been tuned to offer a maximum of 120 bhp and develops a peak torque of 300 Nm. The engine only comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and right now, there is no automatic transmission on offer. The company is also working on the petrol engine and an automatic transmission for the Marazzo and could introduce the same when the BS VI emission norms come into effect from April 2020.

Mahindra, which is a pioneer in the electric vehicles segment with its E2o and Verito class of vehicles, does not plan to bring any electric version of Mazarro to the market and also will avoid the hybrid version on this vehicle.
