Seeing the huge demands of automobiles in the country and the tremendous potential of growth; every auto company wants to make India its next base. Support from the government and the huge investment opportunities attract the automakers.

Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury vehicle unit that belongs to India bred Tata Motors is too planing to start producing SUVs for the Indian market. The units so produced will be both sold in India as well as Exported abroad.

 

According to the sources, there is a possibility that JLR will introduce a mini version on Defender in the year 2019 - 2020. This decision to start manufacturing SUVs in India; one of the largest car market in the world; will not only improve the company’s global footprint but will help the company to improve its annual sales and reach its targets.

 

Seeing the Indian car market in the past few years, it can be observed that most people are opting for SUVs over luxury vehicles and JLR for that matter seems to make the right move.

 

JLR producing their SUVs in the country will benefit the country in two ways. India will be economically powerful and will have a stronger base for other auto manufacturing units.

 

JLR’s plans of setting up production units in the country were initiated long back. But it did not proceed further due to their doubts on other part supplies.

 

 

A small team of engineers has already reached out to vendors to discuss the quality and cost of components the company would likely need, and it is seeking quotation for the potential manufacturing of 50,000 units a year, the person said.

 

JLR competes with luxury auto companies like Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz. It producing products that are positioned at the higher end.     

 

With the Evoque and XE, it has attempted to create a new entry level, which helped it expand sales, and the company is now seeking to build further on that. It has been regularly investing 3.5-3.75 billion pounds every year on creating new products and fresh capacity.
