India’s first charging station in Nagpur. More to come.

Indian auto industry is moving towards the electric era and this situation is ‘now or never’. The world automakers are making all electric 4 wheelers, and India is keeping itself up to adapt to a new change, a change that is good for everyone.

A few days ago, there was a news about the NITI Aygo’s plans of the pilot program to set up 135 charging stations in Delhi NCR. But the setting up of EV charging stations has started far before the plan.

For increasing the use of green energy, an EV charging station was set up by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in partnership with the cab aggregator, Ola. The collaboration was successful in setting up an electric vehicle changing station in one of its petrol pumps.

"Nagpur, being the first city to introduce the electric public transportation model in India, has added one more feather to its cap by adding the first electric charging station at Indian Oil's COCO (company-owned, company-operated) fuel station in the city," an IOC release said.

IOC, in its annual report 2016-2017 had already mentioned that it plans for the setting up of electric station in the country thus making the move towards the adaptation of a cleaner and greener fuel. It is still exploring the production and retailing of the lithium-ion batteries.

EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar told reporters in New Delhi that the company has floated a tender for AC (Alternate Current) and DC (Direct Current) electric vehicle chargers.

While the DC chargers can fully charge an electric vehicle in 45 to 60 minutes, the AC one takes 6 to 7 hours.

The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan that was launched in 2013 by India, with an aim of having about 6-7 million electric vehicles on road and to have 100% EVs by 2030.
