Every 4th Vehicle Sold Is SUV, Here's Why!

We recently concluded that every second car running on Indian roads belong to the Maruti Suzuki brand. Also, we conclude that every fourth car running on Indian Roads is an SUV. If we see that combination, it seems obvious that Vitara Brezza won the 'car of the year' title. The gaining popularity of SUVs and its types in our country and all around the globe has become noticeable enough now. It has jumped from 13% in 2010 to over 25% in 2017 in the passenger vehicles segment. With its compatible ride on the city highways, as well as the rough terrains like mountains, plateaus etc., SUVs have topped the priority list of every car customer. Sedan, on the other hand, is high on maintenance cost as well as market price. Whereas SUVs are heavily feature packed and suitable for every kind of ride the passenger wishes to enjoy. When all the other types showed a mere increase of 3% in the sales, SUVs showed a phenomenal growth of 30%.

Even though SUVs are considered to be more polluting, they are becoming customers' preference with passing time, especially the ones priced under Rs. 10 lakhs (Ford Ecosport, Viterra Brezza, Renault Kwid etc.) Seeing the trends, many carmakers are moving their car designs towards, SUV-like structures. Some become crossovers, some are subcompact SUVs and some are MPVs. The reasons are simple to list, giant and tough aerodynamic structure, feature packed, performance orientation, affordability, suitability for distinct terrains, sporty yet luxurious, multi-purpose compatible and spacious.
