Do Hybrid Cars deserve a Tax Subsidy

To people who still support the system of a unified Tax, the figures came as a jolt to them. It came as a shocker to everyone when the GST tax structure bumped up the overall tax on hybrid cars from 30 per cent to a whopping 43 per cent. The new figure includes a 15 per cent cess on top of the highest tax slab of 28 per cent.

Before the implementation of the GST the government released a provisional draft of the various tax slabs and what will end up where. After the auto experts realized that the high tax structure on the hybrid vehicles will make them cost dearly. A plea was also put in with the government’s finance department to reconsider this move. But it wasn’t meant to be. It was simply side-swept by commenting that the picture painted by the auto industry about the pluses of a hybrid is incorrect.

Hybrid cars are the most fuel-efficient cars; their set up makes it more economical and fuel saving vehicles. Cars the run on the hybrid DNA include the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry.

The Hybrid cars can bring down the emissions significantly thus helping in creating a balance in the ecology.

Also the Hybrids aren't that expensive in India, but a high GST can make not cost dearly. A 43% tax is way too much for something who’s adoption should be encouraged.
