Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, famously called as SAIC is all set to become the first ever automobile industry from China to make it to India. It has already began the process of hiring executives to setup the business here. It might be attributed to the recently appointed Managing Director of the company, Rajeev Chhaba, who is an Indian himself and was the CEO of General Motors previously.

The company will use already setup manufacturing plant of MG Motors in India that is capable of manufacturing 110000 units a year. It is situated at Halol, Gujarat. Currently, the companies are collaboratively trying to get all the formalities with the government done so as to set their foot here as soon as possible. They have already bagged the green signal from the Competition Commission of India, but awaits the clearance of labour issues. Once done, the company will start the manufacturing here.

We all are well aware of the image that the chinese products have in the Indian markets. From toys to towers, it has set a market for almost every product in India but is considered to be low on quality and less durable. Thus, the only and a major sector that the chinese have kept away from, ie, auto sector will require a great effort to shun away this image and be able to let lose some promising products in order to change the prevailing mindset of Indians. The duo even planned to enter the country in 2010 with 5 products in sedan, light trucks and small car segments. But it seems to have come into real action only after the coming of Chhaba and one of his top executives, P Balendran.
