BS III Vehicle Not Yet Registered? Get It Done After April 1

Since 2005, BS III has not been followed and a switch to BS IV compliant vehicles are ordered to be manufactured to the market. But there was still a huge stock of cars left unsold which had their pollution norms based on BS III and not BS IV. What about them? Moreover, what about the vehicles that run on roads with a BS III certification? Well, a good new to you! The government's Transport division confirmed to register the owners of such vehicles after March, though it refused to allow its manufacturing. The step is taken only after Supreme Court's Body ECPA filed a case against the registry or manufacturing of BS III based vehicles under pollution control certificates with the annual vehicular insurance.

The result is in accordance with the Heavy Industry Ministry, which raised a concern over a large number of trucks that run on roads and do not belong to updated BS IV norms.

But how will this move solve the problem of air pollution? It needs to be questioned with depth. If the BS II or BS III complaint vehicles continue to run on roads, it is most unlikely to reduce any pollution. We do not even have any solid rule against the usage of vehicles that are 15 years and old, knowing that they are severely non- ecofriendly. Curbing the problem of rapidly increasing pollution has became a matter of concern and the auto sector seems to react to it in a very fast manner, only on papers.
