ABS mandatory in all cars from April 2019

The central government is quite particular on the safety of the drivers. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has now made it mandatory for all cars to be equipped with the ABS(Anti-Lock Braking System) by the April 2019.

The ABS system prevents wheels from locking up during emergency braking conditions. A global study indicates that ABS system can reduce the risk of crashes by over 20 per cent on an average.

To make sure that this notification is strictly followed it has issued a notification to all the auto manufacturers to make sure that they offer ABS as standard in all the cars, they plan to launch before April 2018.

Another point to be noted is that this rule does not apply to the cars that are already running on the Indian roads and is sold before the mentioned period.

Introducing an ABS as standard in all the cars will not be a problem for the manufacturers. Maruti Suzuki is already offering ABS and along with dual airbags as standard in all its products that it is selling through its Nexa dealerships.

A mandatory ABS might increase the price of the vehicles by a 20,000 - 30,000.
