The Dull Looking Innova Made all the more Dramatic with the new Innova Crysta

Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) is all set to launch it’s tried and tested modern formula with the traditional body-on-frame chassis. The use of the suffix Crysta and a more dramatic look is about to boggle the mind of Innova fans. Crysta is more of an evolution than a revolution. Innova Crysta, being an offspring, is packed up with features. Let us explore the extreme makeover of the 10 year old Innova.

Exterior
Front ends get large & angular grille, double barrel headlights with LEDs and instead of following the old tabular format, Crysta now has an angulated 3rd row window. Rear has been made more dramatic with oversized bumpers and horizontally stacked taillights. Toyota did not follow a hydroformed chassis, something that Tata and Mahindra have been following.

Interior and Features
TKM and Hiroki Nakajima, Toyota’s managing officer and Innova’s chief engineer are particularly proud of the new single piece dashboard which is more upmarket and luxurious. Also, the steering and instrument cluster has been redesigned. Audio controls, keyless entry and LED headlamps are standard across all variants. However, the top model has Ac vents in both rows.

Engine

Innova Crysta will be powered by GD 2.4-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines. The 2,393cc engine develops 147bhp and 359Nm of torque mated to a manual gearbox, the in-line four-cylinder 2,000cc VVT-i petrol engine churns out 137bhp and 183Nm of torque. The petrol mill will be available with manual and automatic transmissions.

Gear Box
2016 will be the year when the Innova will finally get an optional automatic gearbox. A 6-speed automatic gearbox has been introduced with the Crysta. This fairly modern gearbox should work well in conjunction with the significantly more powerful engine.

Dimensions

Crysta is 4735mm long, 1795mm tall and 1830mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2750mm.It weighs 200kgs more than its predecessor.

The Innova Crysta is expected to be launched on the 3rd of May and is expected to be priced around 13 lakhs -18 lakhs.
