Steps to care for your car during lockdown

Despite grocery stores in the neighborhood, most people in India are still not using their personal vehicles. At such a time, when cars are lying idle, it becomes vital for owners to follow certain steps to ensure no unnecessary damage is caused to their vehicles. Remember that you will need to care for the vehicle more if it is an older model.

The following steps will help keep your car in good shape when you start using it again:

1.Move the vehicle forward or backward every 2-3 days and check tyre pressure (Pressure need not have to be checked by a gauge; it can be known by looking properly). This will prevent tyre damage.

2.Start the car and move it around the parking lot or in your apartment area at least once in 5 days for 10 minutes

3.Press on the bonnet or open it and see. This will help eliminate rats or other rodents who might have sneaked up into the vehicle’s engine bay.

4.Car brakes may get damaged if the handbrake is constantly kept engaged. It is best to either make use of a tyre stopper or a large stone. Also you can park AT in N and MT in reverse.

5.For the sake of battery, turn the car on and switch on its AC for some time. This ensures that the battery remains operational.

6.Keep your car in a covered area. Keeping it outside in the sun during this weather can result in scratches and may also cause overheating.

7.Maintain adequate fuel for a possible emergency

8.Wipers should be lifted, or they are likely to leave marks on the windscreen.

9.Clean the interiors at least twice a week. In fact, this is a good time to use a new polish on the vehicle and clean it thoroughly. Dust your car on the outside as well.

10.Do not cancel vehicle insurance at this time if it is about to expire. This is likely to impact no-claim rewards.

Do not feel sad about not being able to take your beloved vehicle out. In fact, what you can do is start preparing a bucket list of all the places you wish to visit post lockdown. It will give you a lot to look forward to.
