No registration of the BS-IV vehicles after June 2020

The pollution levels especially in the capital are ragging to high levels. And the stakeholders are taking strict measures to bring it down, especially the transport authority.

With the Prime Minister’s commitment of a COP 21 that aims to reduce the vehicular pollution, improve the fuel efficiency and keep the environment healthy, the government is taking the necessary steps to keep up with the commitment.

India follows a regulatory pathway for fuel quality and vehicle emission standards. It is termed as Bharat Stage (BS). The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas  was successful in introducing the BS IV transportation fuel in April 2017. The organisation had also decided to skip the BS V standard and jump to the BS VI standard directly.

The authorities has already decided to prepone theBS VI fuel introduction from in NCT of Delhi from 1 April 2018, instead of 1 April 2020.

Now the government has taken another step towards reaching the goal and making the people to adapt to it as soon as possible. The BS-IV vehicles will come to an end as the government has issue a notice of stopping the production of the same. Thus, no BS VI vehicles will be produced after 30th June 2020.Furthermore, BS-IV compliant goods and public carriers manufactured before April 1, 2020 and sold as a drive away chassis shall not be registered after September 30, 2020.

BS-VI grade fuels will be available in Delhi and its surrounding areas from April 1, 2018.
