Merc leads the Indian luxury market Again

Mercedes-Benz records it’s highest ever sales in India; maintains its leadership and winning brand position in the dynamic Indian luxury car industry, for the third consecutive year.

In its best ever year a record 15,330 units sold between January-December, 2017, up 15.9% from the 13,231 units sold in Jan-Dec 2016.

The company also marked its best ever July-December sales with a record 8,159 units sold an additional 23% from 6,634 units sold in the previous year.

For Mercedes the exceptional demand for the new Long wheelbase E-Class continued to drive sales, while the SUV family of GLC, GLE & GLS range continues to retain the top slots in the segment for 2nd year in a row.

Its competitors also posted some growth, but the numbers failed to trigger any major avalanche of sales last year.  BMW Group India, second largest in the pecking order, said it delivered 9,800 cars during the year, up 25% over the year-ago period. While Audi India, the third largest by volume, said it delivered 7,876 units in 2017, up 2% over the last year. The company head Rahil Ansari, said it will bring the new generation Q5 this month to bolster sales.

The most spectacular growth was led Tata Motors owned British arquee brand Jaguar & Land Rover with its new, competitively priced models Jaguar XE (sold at Rs 3.58 million), and the XF  and F-PACE, among others, JLR India too saw its sales advance by 49% to 3,954 units in 2017.

“We intend to sustain this fabulous momentum in 2018 with the launch of some exciting new products like the new Range Rover Velar in January 2018,” said Rohit Suri, its president & managing director.

Meanwhile Mercedes-Benz the leader plans to launch the offensive with its Mercedes-Maybach S 650 at Auto Expo 2018. Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “As Mercedes-Benz today remains the most preferred luxury car brand in India and our increasing sales volumes, firmly underlines the customer’s trust on a winning brand.

“Our 2018 strategy, ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ is based on this market success and confidence and aims to further deepen our commitment for our patrons. With the customers at the focal point, ‘The Best Keeps Leading’ strategy will see Mercedes-Benz’s product offensive intensify and fascinate, innovative after-sales services delight, qualitative network expansion strengthened and novel brand initiatives excite, our patrons,” he added with a gleaming smile of the leader.
