Maharashtra to invest a hefty amount on e-vehicles

Both automakers and the government are all gala about the development of the e-vehicle infrastructure in the country. The development of such a vision is a priority for both.

With the world transforming into a more sustainable place to live, Maharashtra government plans to bring Rs 25,000-crore investment for the manufacturing of the e-vehicles and the other infra required to sustain it.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday announced that the government wants to promote e-vehicle ecosystem in the state and to aid the same, the investment will be raised.

Fadnavis was speaking at a function in Mantralaya (state secretariat), where five e-vehicles procured on rent from Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) were handed over to the PWD department.

The government is also encouraging the use of e-vehicles by all its departments.EESL will rent out 1,000 such vehicles in phases to the government. Initially, two charging stations each will be set up in Mantralaya (Mumbai) and Nagpur for these vehicles.

In the May of this year, an MoU was signed between  PWD department and EESL to procure e-vehicles on rent from the central PSU.The MoU also envisages manufacturing such vehicles and their spare parts.
