Honda promises to make affordable E-cars for India

Recently this October, Honda wanted to make hybrids and diesel vehicles for India.
However, there is a twist in the story. After the Modi government pushing the automakers to bring the wave of change with the new era of cleaner fuel vehicles. The carmakers are planning to introduce new vehicles that are country specific.

Thus, HCIL, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker is chalking plans and strategies to bring in electric cars that are specifically made for the Indians. With that they mean - affordable and adaptable under Indian traffic conditions.

With the stones falling in the right pots, the company has an aim of having a 65% sale from the electric vehicles by the year 2030. The research and development is on with the Electric Vehicle Development Division — a specialized team which is in charge of developing the entire vehicle including the powertrain and body — to increase development speed of EVs.

However, the company officials also think that the development of this project and its completion with also depend upon the government initiatives for the evolution of technology and the people being encouraged to go electric with their vehicles.

The company also believes that the change will be disruptive in the long run, but for now, the Indian auto market is quite attracted to the hybrid cars.

Setting up of an electric network in the country will include development of a powerful charging station, availability of after service technicians and good quality lithium batteries.
Separately, Korean carmaker Hyundai too is evaluating its green mobility solution for the Indian market.
