The First Plug-in Hybrid for Audi - RS7

It looks like all the cars today are going for a rehab and coming out as electric or hybrids. With Mahindra, Skoda and Maruti already working on such a rehab, the luxury car makers are not behind.

The German carmaker - Audi is all set to launch its first plug-in hybrid. The Audi RS7 sports back edition. The company plans to launch it in 2018 and it will come in two variants. A regular model that is hooked with an all-new 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 producing around 650bhp and a second, more powerful hybrid model.

The details of the hybrid motor is yet to be out but if market experts are to be believed, it is expected that this hybrid RS7 will be backed with the motor same as the Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid. This car is expected to produce a power of 700bhp.

The engine will take its features from the engines of Panamera Turbo and new Bentley Continental GT, that is, the V8 twin-turbos. Also the engine ill be mated with an 8 speed S-tronic gearbox.

The car will have the capacity to reach the 100 on the speedometer in just 3.5 seconds and will carry a top speed of 300kmph.

A further development of the lithium-ion drive battery pack and electric motor power system should allow Audi to extract an extra 150bhp to add to the combustion engine’s output. It’s expected that the internal combustion engine’s output will be pegged back to 550bhp for the hybrid RS7, resulting in a total combined output of 700bhp.
