BS-VI grade auto fuel introduction preponed in Delhi NCT

Later, the national capital has been in news for the high pollution levels and the bad air quality in the city. Despite the measure taken by the government to lower down the pollution levels this Diwali, things have not changed. Rather, the conditions are getting worse.

With the Prime Minister’s commitment of a COP 21 that aims to reduce the vehicular pollution improve the fuel efficiency and keep the environment healthy, the government is taking the necessary steps to keep up with the commitment.

India follows a regulatory pathway for fuel quality and vehicle emission standards. It is termed as Bharat Stage (BS). The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas was successful in introducing the BS IV transportation fuel in April 2017. The organization had also decided to skip the BS V standard and jump to the BS VI standard directly. As a result, the oil companies and automobile makers had to strategies accordingly.

However with the increased pollution levels the government has now decided to prepone the BS VI fuel introduction from in NCT of Delhi from 1 April 2018, instead of 1 April 2020.

Oil refining companies are making huge investments in fuel up gradation projects to produce the BS-VI grade fuel and act upon the policy change. OMCs have also been asked to examine the possibility of introduction of BS-VI auto fuels in the whole of NCR area from 1 April 2019.

With this strong step, the government is likely to bring the rising pollution levels under control.
