Extend FAME to all the cities, Demands SIAM

Seems like the 56th Annual Convocation of SIAM ended at a very positive note this year. Vinod Ansari, SIAM president requested the government to come out with a wider outlay of the FAME scheme.

FAME India which is a nation mission on electric mobility, is incentivizing people on the adoption of electric and hybrid, two and four wheeler vehicles. It incentivizes an amount in the range of Rs. 7500 - Rs. 1,38,000 depending upon the models. It has, till now, sold almost 62,000 vehicles under the scheme. Fame, which is currently in the second year of the 2-year pilot program, extends to only a few cities.

After the initiation of the SIAM scheme the company has seen a lot of positive response from the people. This initiative has encouraged people to adopt more and more hybrid and electric vehicles.

However, after the successful implementation of the pilot program of the fame scheme, Ansari asked the government for a further extension in the outlay of the scheme to all the cities nationwide. “We request the government to come out with the much larger outlay. It is important that the very scheme, which is today applicable only in some cities, is extended to the entire country.”

Ansari also told that the government should make a layout plan and create a roadmap further to reduce CO2 emissions, safety and fuel efficiency regulations leading to a better and healthy future.

He also demanded for a single ministry and a single agency to deal with the issues related to the auto industry, saying that at present multiple ministries are involved and most of them have little knowledge about the sector.
